Parenting Safe Children is an organization with one goal: to eliminate child sexual assault from our communities. And we want to start what could be the most important conversation you could ever have as a parent.
It’s also one of the most difficult — if not the most difficult — subjects to talk about. But considering how dangerous, and how common, child sexual assault is, we owe it to our children to do whatever it takes to protect them from it.
OFF LIMITS = This book will empower you with information on age-appropriate sexual development, body-safety rules, sample language for talking with children and teens about body-safety, screening questions for caregivers, and more. It also includes information on how to handle a disclosure when a child has been sexually assaulted or is assaulting another child.

A frightening or dangerous event or series of events will typically elicit strong feelings of fear, which create a physiological response in the body. This response is designed to enable someone to either fight or flee the situation. On the other side of the event, it’s natural to experience a range of emotions. If uncomfortable thoughts and emotions continue past the event and when no dangers are present, someone may be exhibiting symptoms of PTSD.”

Most children growing up cannot say their fathers were jockeys who rode racehorses for a living. With that profession comes excitement, privilege, community status, and a vast array of Hall of Fame athletes and a host of trainers, agents, stable workers, and jockeys frequently visiting the home. That was the life author Tracey Cooper and her siblings experienced.
But while adoring fans cheered her father across the finish line, her mother was beating her and her six siblings within an inch of their lives. They endured her unbelievable anger, resentment, and negative energy until they were able to leave. In Cooper’s home, the abusive events were oddly intertwined with the very public aspect of the professional sport of kings and the sheer excitement and magnitude of the horse racing industry.
In Jockey Daughter, she shares a poignant, firsthand look at the personal side of horse racing and the secreted physical abuse that happens in so many families regardless of their economic status. The Bastard Queen: A Family Secret Revealed is a story of secrets, acceptance, and forgiveness. This is my life. A life I felt never needed to be written about because through my eyes was rather uneventful. I’d been awarded and achieved goals that not many people get to experience but chalked it up to luck and the hard work given to my vocal studies. Those moments have been documented in writing and photos for the history books. Child model, Homecoming Queen, featured guest artist on stage and television, Miss America, Broadway, etc. I had a gift in the field of the arts and mother tried to cultivate those talents. I know she sacrificed to give me those opportunities and for that I am appreciative. But what happens when the life you’ve lived becomes turned on its side, upside down, or does a dizzying full circle and you learn a secret has been kept from you? Was it out of love and to protect me? Was it to not bring shame upon the family? Was there ever an agreement to share the truth with me when I reached a certain age in adulthood? Mother never had the courage to tell me and she outlived ALMOST everyone who knew the truth. I feel she was ashamed and that late in life…what did it matter? Well, it matters to me. My children and my grandchildren deserve to know their history too.
