Marilyn Addresses Healing from Trauma

WINGS talk given to survivors in Denver, 2018

In September 2017, Marilyn gave a deeply personal, intimate talk to survivors and support people. She shared information that she has never shared publicly. She gave insights that will help survivors in their own recovery and will help support people to better understand the healing process.

As a result of a history of sexual abuse by her father, Marilyn founded the American Coalition for Abuse Awareness and One Voice and authored “Miss America By Day: Lessons Learned from Ultimate Betrayals and Unconditional Love”

Marilyn’s passion is educating society about the long term impact of sexual assault so that people will better understand why resources need to be available for prevention and intervention.

On April 17, 2009, former Miss America Marilyn Van Derbur was interviewed by TV33. Marilyn discusses the events and background that led to her writing her book, “Miss America by Day,” which is a 5-star book on Amazon.com (The highest rating possible.)

Ms. Van Derbur was a victim of childhood sexual abuse by her father. Her story is a penetrating look at incest and the life-altering effects sexual abuse has on children.

Once Can Hurt a Lifetime

This video addresses sexually inappropriate behavior between children and teens and encourages those who have experienced sexual abuse to seek help and support.

This presentation is one of the more recent ones. Survivors who have viewed her first presentation will be able to see her growth as she continues to tell her story.

Additional information is included to help those who support survivors, as well as give survivors insights into the unexplained physical, mental, and behavioral issues.

A Story of Hope

Marilyn's first talk to survivors. June 1991

This is the first presentation that Marilyn gave as an incest survivor. Her husband, Larry, and daughter, Jennifer, are with her and introduce Marilyn to an audience of sexual abuse survivors.
